Creative Director at Nantea Dance Company

Tanzanian Tadhi Alawi is a dancer and choreographer. He is the creative director of Nantea Dance Company as well as the co-managing director of Contemporary Dance Night and the Tanzanian outreach dance project Nje Ndani. Contemporary Dance Night takes place twice a year in Dar es Salaam. His other activities are also in the field of movement research, as a yoga teacher and fitness expert for N*Gen TV Africa. Tadhi Alawi is a founding member of the Umoja Artists in Residency programme, which takes place in Tanzania for five weeks every year.

In 2022, Tadhi Alawi was one of 100 professional artists from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe (non-EU countries) awarded a grant from the Swiss Sudkulturfonds to support his artistic practice. Tadhi has made a name for himself in dance after submitting his BODY VS MOUTH dance films to various dance platforms. His works BODY VS MOUTH and STAY AT HOME Films were promoted on BBC News during the global pandemic in 2020. Nantea Dance Company’s latest dance production titled A MOMENT – WAKATI has been performed with success at festivals in Africa and Europe. The artist premiered his new solo called DAR ES SALAAM in Tanzania.
